What is palo santo?
Palo santo ("holy wood" in Spanish) (Bursera graveolens) is a tree native to Peru, Ecuador, and other South American countries.
It has been used for centuries by Incas and shamans in ritual prayer, ceremonies and healing. Rich in oils, it has a thick and fragrant smoke, useful for fumigation and purification rituals.
Palo santo is harvested sustainably by collecting only naturally fallen branches that have rested on the forest floor for several years, allowing their oils to develop. The drying process is essential for developing the unique aroma and healing properties of the wood. Living trees are not cut, in order to protect the species' long-term survival.
Care tips
Avoid fumigation in the presence of animals, children or people with respiratory difficulties. Make sure the room is well ventilated. Do not inhale smoke directly. Do not leave unattended while burning.
